Medicinal Identification

Gangban gui and Alisma: Both herbs promote diuresis and reduce swelling, and can be used together to treat conditions caused by water-dampness stagnation, such as difficulty urinating, edema, diarrhea, dysuria with turbid urine, and leukorrhea. However, Gangban Gui excels at clearing heat and detoxifying; it is frequently used to treat sore throat, boils, and snake or insect bites caused by severe heat-toxin accumulation. It can also consolidate lung qi to relieve cough, making it a common choice for treating lung-heat coughs and whooping cough in children.Alisma excels at promoting diuresis and draining dampness; it can both clear heat from the bladder and disperse the “ministerial fire” of the kidney meridian, making it an excellent remedy for conditions of damp-heat accumulation in the lower jiao, syndromes of internal water and dampness retention, as well as for conditions such as nocturnal emissions and hot flashes caused by kidney yin deficiency and excessive “ministerial fire.” Furthermore, by draining water and dampness, resolving phlegm and fluid retention, transforming turbidity, and lowering lipids, it is an excellent remedy for dizziness and vertigo caused by stagnant phlegm and fluid retention and the failure of clear yang to rise, as well as for hyperlipidemia.
