Commentary
White Flower Snake Tongue Grass (Bai-hua-she-she-cao) act as the chief herb. Slightly bitter, sweet-slightly cold in property, it enters the Stomach, Large Intestine, Small Intestine meridians, and works to clear heat, remove toxins and promote urination. Xu Changqing acts as the deputy ingredient. Chuanxiong (Chuan-xiong) reinforces this deputy action, working to activate blood, move qi, dispel wind and relieve pain. Finally, honey (Feng-mi) stands as the harmonizing envoy; its role is to moisten the lung and harmonize the formula and coordinate the herbs. United, the ingredients clear heat and purge fire, regulate qi and relieve pain, addressing the root disturbance of the heat pattern.
