A plant of the Polypodiaceae family, Central China Polypodium.
Morphological Characteristics
The rhizome is thick, cylindrical, and ascending at an angle. Leaves are dimorphic; vegetative leaves are relatively short, with petioles 20–30 cm long and 1–2 pairs of tuberous air sacs on either side of the base; leaf blades are oblong, papery, smooth, 32–45 cm long, 13–18 cm wide, and odd-pinnate;with 14–16 pairs of pinnae that are nearly opposite or alternate, ascending obliquely, lanceolate, slightly sickle-shaped, 9–11 cm long, 1–1.3 cm wide, with an acuminate apex; the lower margin is nearly entire, while the upper margin bears shallow, wavy, fine serrations; the veins are simple or dichotomous, extending to the leaf margin, and are distinctly raised on both surfaces.Sporophylls rise above the vegetative leaves; petiole 50 cm long; lamina 30–40 cm long; pinnae 8–10 cm long, linear, with relatively long petioles; lateral veins forked, extending to about half the distance from the leaf margin. Sporangia are borne at the tips of minor veins and, when mature, cover the underside of the pinnae.
