Morphological Characteristics

A perennial herb, 6–20 cm tall. The stem is erect, unbranched, quadrangular, and densely covered with grayish-white, cottony, long, soft hairs. Leaves are opposite;basal leaves are petiolate, with petioles 0.7–2 cm long; upper stem leaves are sessile; leaf blades are elliptic-oblong or elliptic-ovate, 1.5–4 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide, with a blunt or slightly acute apex, a wedge-shaped base extending downward to clasp the stem, densely covered with soft, rough, appressed hairs on the upper surface and sparsely so on the lower surface, and margins bearing indistinct wavy teeth.Whorled inflorescences gradually converge upward from the middle of the stem, forming a dense spicate corymb at the apex; bracts are leaf-like, gradually decreasing in size toward the apex, and are lanceolate or ovate;the calyx is broadly campanulate, covered externally with cottony, long soft hairs; the calyx teeth are 5, regular; the corolla is bluish-purple or blue, with a ring of hairs on the inner surface near the base; the corolla is bilabiate, with a short, erect upper lip that is 2-lobed, and an elongated, broad lower lip that is 3-lobed, the central lobe fan-shaped and the lateral lobes oblong; there are 4 stamens, with two stronger ones;The style extends beyond the stamens and is shallowly bifid at the apex; the disk is annular. The nutlets are obovate-trigonal, with reticulate wrinkles on the back and a single large umbilicus on the ventral surface, extending to two-thirds of the ventral length. Flowering occurs from April to May, and fruiting from May to June.
