Morphological Characteristics
Male frogs measure 45 mm in body length; females, 61 mm. The body is flattened; the head is long, with the head width approximately equal to its length; the snout is slightly pointed and rounded, with a distinct snout ridge;the nostrils are near the tip of the snout; the interorbital distance is greater than the inter-nostril distance or the width of the upper eyelid, and the eardrum is half the diameter of the eye; the posterior end of the tongue has a deep notch, the palatal teeth are narrow and long, and the tips of the fingers and toes are enlarged into suction cups; a transverse groove divides the body into dorsal and ventral surfaces; the finger lengths, in descending order, are 3, 4, 2, 1;The base of the digits is unwebbed or slightly webbed; the subarticular tubercles and medial metatarsal protuberances are small but distinct, and subdigital tubercles are sometimes present. The hind limbs are long, with the tarsometatarsal joint extending forward to the point between the eye and the nostril. The tibia is less than half the body length; the suction cups on the toes are slightly smaller than those on the fingers, and the webbing between the toes is approximately one-third the width; the subarticular tubercles and medial metatarsal processes are small but distinct, and there are no lateral metatarsal processes.Coloration varies greatly during life, depending on environmental conditions, ranging from pale yellowish-brown to dark brown. The patterns on the dorsal surface also vary widely; generally, there are four black longitudinal stripes, though some individuals exhibit an “X”-shaped pattern behind the head. A fine white line runs along the edge of the upper jaw; the thighs bear 3–4 transverse stripes, and the posterior thigh and anal region feature conspicuous reticulated brown markings; The ventral surface is milky white, with slight brown speckles on the throat. Male frogs possess a single subpharyngeal vocal sac with a round opening, and a highly conspicuous milky-white nuptial pad at the base of the first toe.
