Commentary
Honeysuckle (Jin-yin-hua) serves as the monarch (chief) herb; cold and sweet in character, it travels through the Lung, Heart, Stomach meridians, working chiefly to clear heat and remove toxins, disperse wind-heat. Finally, green tea (Lu-cha) serves as the envoy herb, harmonizing the whole; its role is to clear heat, resolve dampness and refresh the mind and coordinate the herbs. Taken together these herbs clear heat and detoxify, cool the stomach and promote fluid production, in keeping with the peptic ulcer pattern.
