Commentary
Qingpi (Qing-pi) acts as the chief herb. Bitter, pungent-warm in property, it enters the Liver, Gallbladder, Stomach meridians, and works to soothe the liver, break qi and dissipate stagnation. Perilla Stems act as the deputy ingredient. Finally, green tea (Lu-cha) functions as the harmonizing (envoy) ingredient; its role is to clear heat, resolve dampness and refresh the mind and coordinate the herbs. In sum, the prescription relieve liver stagnation, regulate qi, balances menstruation, aimed squarely at the liver qi and blood pattern rather than at isolated symptoms.
