Commentary
Tangerine peel (Chen-pi) stands as the primary (chief) herb. Pungent, bitter-warm in property, it enters the Spleen, Lung meridians, and works to regulate qi and resolve phlegm. Tangerine seeds serve as the deputy herb. Tangerine pith lends further support to the chief action. Honey (Feng-mi) rounds out the formula as the envoy herb, working to moisten the lung and harmonize the formula and moderate the overall properties. In sum, the prescription promote the flow of qi and activate blood circulation, aimed squarely at the blood and qi pattern rather than at isolated symptoms.
