Kumquats (Jin-ju) take the deputy (minister) role. Pungent, sweet, sour-warm in property, it enters the Liver, Lung, Spleen, Stomach meridians and works to regulate qi, relieve depression and resolve phlegm. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients.
