10 grams of fresh ginger, 5 grams of Cinnamomum twigs, and 5 jujubes.Main Ingredients
How To Make
Wash and soak the jujubes to rehydrate them. Wash and finely chop the ginger, then place it in a pot with the jujubes and Cinnamomum twigs. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer until it becomes a decoction.

Commentary
Taking fresh ginger (Sheng-jiang) as the chief herb, the formula draws on its pungent flavor and warm property: it channels into the Lung, Spleen, Stomach meridians and works to disperse wind-cold, stop vomiting and relieve cough. Cinnamomum twigs act as the deputy ingredient. Finally, jujubes (Da-zao) play the envoy role, unifying the formula; its role is to tonify qi, nourish blood and calm the spirit, harmonize the formula and coordinate the herbs. Working as one, the formula warm and tonify heart yang, calm the heart and soothe the spirit, thereby targeting the phlegm pattern that underlies the complaint.
