Commentary

Honeysuckle flowers hold the chief position in this formula, providing the main thrust of the formula. Citron flowers fill the deputy position. Gardenia flowers (Zhi-zi-hua) add further support, working to clear heat and purge fire. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients. Collectively, the combination clear stomach heat and regulate qi, addressing the qi and heat pattern.
