Morphological Characteristics
A deciduous tree, 5–12 m tall. The root is straight, with thick, white root bark. The bark is rusty black, and branches and leaves are clustered at the top of the trunk. Leaves are opposite, 2–3-pinnately compound; leaflets are opposite, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 2–9 cm long, 1–3.5 cm wide, with a caudate acute apex, a nearly rounded base, entire margins, and green and glabrous on both surfaces.Inflorescences are terminal racemes; the corolla is white, long-tubular, 12–14 cm long, with 5 lobes. The fruit is long-cylindrical, resembling a pod, up to 50–80 cm long, pendulous, splitting longitudinally into two sections when ripe, containing numerous membranous seeds. Flowering occurs in summer.
