Cinnamomum cassia twigs (Gui-zhi) stand in the deputy (minister) seat; warm and pungent, sweet in character, it travels through the Heart, Lung, Bladder meridians to warm the channels and free yang. Sichuan pepper (Hua-jiao) adds further support, working to warm the middle, disperse cold, relieve pain and kills parasites. Assisting the core, mugwort leaves (Ai-ye) add as an assistant element, helping to warm the channels, stop bleeding, disperse cold and regulate menstruation.
