Drug Formulation

Zinc Oxide 2 liang, Mirabilite 1.5 liang (mix these two ingredients thoroughly, roast for one day, then wash with water to remove fire toxicity); Orpiment 1 liang, Mithril 1 liang (washed with water); Cinnabar 0.5 liang, Copper Green 0.5 liang; Rock Salt 3 qian; Pyrophosphate 3 qian; Arsenic Sulfate 3 qian; Borax 3 qian; White Cloves (male) 3 qian; Mercury Oxide 2 qian.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder; take 1 liang of Coptis chinensis, coarsely crushed, and 1 bowl of water, and simmer until reduced to 1 zhan, to the point where a drop of the liquid does not disperse; strain out the residue, add 1 jin of white sand honey, and simmer over low heat; incorporate the prepared powder and mix thoroughly, then simmer over alternating low and medium heat until the consistency reaches the desired thickness.

Instructions for Use

Apply 2–3 chopsticks’ worth every night; if you feel dryness inside the eye, it is a sign the medicine is taking effect. Then sleep until morning. If you notice a slight improvement, apply more frequently; do not be alarmed if the eyes feel dry and difficult to open—this is a sign of effectiveness. Results will be evident after 10 days of application.
