Drug Formulation

Cornus officinalis (soaked in wine, pitted) 5 liang, Cyperus rotundus (hairs removed, processed four times) 5 liang, Ligusticum chuanxiong (washed with wine) 3 liang, Rehmannia glutinosa (washed with wine, pounded until very fine) 3 liang, Paeonia lactiflora (peeled, stir-fried with wine until yellow) 4 liang, Leonurus japonicus 3 liang, Scutellaria baicalensis (stir-fried with wine) 2 liang,Cnidium monnieri (washed with water, lightly stir-fried) 2 liang, Rubus chingii (lightly stir-fried) 2 liang, Corydalis yanhusuo (lightly stir-fried) 2 liang, Dried tangerine peel (washed with water, white pith removed) 2 liang, Atractylodes lancea (soaked in rice washing water overnight) 3 liang,Amomum villosum (shelled) 1 liang 5 qian, Salvia miltiorrhiza (washed with water) 2 liang, Angelica sinensis (washed with wine, root base removed, used whole) 3 liang, 1 white-feathered male Silky Black-Bone chicken (pre-fed for 1 month, kept separate from female chickens; just before preparation, strangle it with a string without causing bleeding; dry, pluck the feathers, cut open, and remove intestinal waste and any undigested food from the crop,the yellow membrane inside the gizzard; wash it thoroughly with wine; return all these parts to the chicken’s abdomen, ensuring they do not come into contact with water; place it in an earthenware jar, add 2 jin of wine, seal tightly, and simmer in a double boiler until tender. Remove, scrape off all the meat, and pound it into a paste. Separately, roast the chicken bones with ghee and the original broth or wine until crisp, then grind into a fine powder; mix thoroughly with the herbal powder).

Processing

Grind the mixture into an extremely fine powder. Combine it with the chicken meat and Rehmannia root, then cook in vinegar with a rice paste until well blended. Pound the mixture in a wooden mortar until extremely fine, and form into pills the size of a paulownia seed.
