Drug Formulation

5 he of deer marrow, 3 he of raw Tianmen冬 juice (strained), 3 he of raw Mai门冬 juice (strained), 5 he of clear rice wine, 5 he of beef marrow (if beef marrow is unavailable, substitute with 1 sheng of beef ghee), 7 he of white honey,jujube paste 5 he, raw Rehmannia root juice 1 sheng (for the above eight ingredients: first decoct the Rehmannia root, Asparagus root, and rice wine until the volume has reduced by 2 fen from 5 fen; next, add the Ophiopogon root juice and boil for 20 boils; then add the ghee, marrow, white honey, and jujube paste, and simmer until it reaches the consistency of thick sugar syrup; pour into a silver or stone vessel, then place it over a double boiler and stir until it becomes a thick paste; immediately incorporate the powdered herbs listed below),Poria (with woody core removed) 1 liang, Dragon Bone 1 liang, Ginseng 1 liang, Fructus Aurantii (pulp removed, fried with wheat bran) 3 fen, Asarum (stems and leaves removed) 3 fen, Saposhnikovia (branches removed) 3 fen, Atractylodes 3 fen, Dendrobium (roots removed) 3 fen,Cinnamon Bark (with coarse bark removed) 3 fen, Ligusticum Root 3 fen, Astragalus Root (roasted, coarsely chopped) 3 fen, Schisandra Berry 3 fen, Licorice Root (roasted, coarsely chopped) 1 liang and a half, Aged Tangerine Peel (soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried) half a liang, Magnolia Bark (coarse bark removed, roasted with ginger juice) half a liang,half liang of yam, 3 fen of Cornus officinalis (including seeds), 3 fen of Biota seed (roasted), 3 fen of Lycium barbarum, half liang of Polygala tenuifolia (core removed), half liang of Coptis chinensis (stems removed), 3 fen of Coix seed (roasted), and 3 fen of Areca nut (chopped).

Processing

Of the thirty-one ingredients listed above, set aside the eight to be decocted. Pound the remaining ingredients into a fine powder, mix them into the decoction, and knead thoroughly to form pills the size of a Paulownia seed.
