Drug Formulation
3 qian of the top of the skull (roasted with ghee until yellow, then ground into powder), 1 qian of bone from inside a tiger’s feces (human bone is best, animal bone is second best; if a tiger is killed, bone from its large intestine may also be used;combined with a quantity of green snake brain the size of a mung bean or a green bean; roast with ghee until the color changes—if snake brain is unavailable, roasting with vinegar alone is also acceptable), softshell turtle shell (the largest available; those with 9 ribs are especially excellent; roast with ghee until yellow, then grind into powder) 1 liang, benzoin half a liang, peach kernels 1 fen (remove skin and tip, then grind.Grind into a powder and sift through a silk sieve), Artemisia annua (take the top 3–4 cun near the tip, finely chopped) 6 liang, fermented soybeans 300 grains, white parts of scallions 21 (crushed), 7 stems of East-Drawn Peach, 7 stems of Willow, 7 stems of Plum,7 mulberry branches (each as thick as a chopstick tip, 7 cuns long, finely chopped), 1 qian of musk (ground separately), 21 maple leaves (may be omitted if unavailable; not originally used), half a sheng of a young boy’s urine, and 1 fen of areca nut (ground separately into a fine powder).

Processing
First, take Artemisia annua, peach, willow, plum, mulberry branches, maple leaves, scallions, and fermented soybeans; add 3 sheng of water (as measured by the official provincial standard) and decoct until reduced to about half a sheng. Strain out the residue. Then, add benzoin, the skullcap of a celestial spirit, the inner bone of tiger feces, softshell turtle shell, peach kernels, and a child’s urine, and decoct together to extract the juice. Strain out the residue; this should yield 4–5 he.Grind areca nut and musk together until uniform, then mix to form one dose.

Instructions for Use
Take it warm in the morning, cover yourself with a blanket to induce sweating; if you fear there may be tiny worms in the sweat, wipe them off with a piece of silk, then immediately burn that silk; diarrhea will follow, and worms will certainly be expelled. If any are not dead, burn them over a high flame and dispose of them in a flowing stream. The patient must not be allowed to know about the medication used, nor should they be told of it in the future. After about 10 days, when the patient’s vital energy has recovered, administer another dose, burn and dispose of it as before, continuing until no more worms are present.
