Drug Formulation

1 jin of He Shou Wu, 1 jin of red and white beans (scrape off the coarse skin with a bamboo knife, soak in rice washing water overnight; use 3 sheng of black beans,soak in water until plump; layer the black beans and He Shou Wu alternately, one layer of beans followed by one layer of He Shou Wu, until all ingredients are stacked; steam in a clay pot with a bamboo steamer until the beans are cooked; remove the He Shou Wu and sun-dry it; repeat this steaming and drying process nine times before use), 1 jin of red Poria (scrape off the coarse bark with a bamboo knife, grind into a powder; place the powder in a dish of water; discard any fibrous membranes that float on the surface and retain those that sink to the bottom;form into moist lumps; use 5 bowls of black cow’s milk, place in a clay pot, and simmer over low heat until the milk is fully absorbed into the Poria; then grind into a powder for use),1 jin of White Poria (prepared in the same manner as Red Poria; also form into a moist lump; add 5 bowls of human milk to a clay pot and simmer over low heat as described for Red Poria; then grind into a fine powder for later use), 4 liang of Huai Yam (stir-fried with ginger juice, then ground into a fine powder),Sichuan Achyranthes (stem removed, soaked in wine overnight, sun-dried, and ground into a powder) 8 liang, Sweet Goji Berries (stems removed, sun-dried, and ground into a powder) 4 liang, Eucommia (bark removed, stir-fried with ginger juice until the fibers break, and ground into a powder) 8 liang, Polygonum multiflorum (stir-fried with black sesame seeds until cooked; remove the sesame seeds, then grind Polygonum multiflorum into a powder) 4 liang,Dodder Seed (cleaned of sand and soil, soaked in wine until sprouts emerge, pounded into cakes, sun-dried, and ground into powder) 8 liang.

Processing

Do not mix these herbs with iron utensils; weigh the correct amounts and blend thoroughly, then mix with refined honey to form pills the size of a paulownia seed.
