Fire-Directing Decoction,Yin E. Fire from the Shao Yin Kidney rises upward, causing swelling and pain in the throat that is milder during the day and worse at night. A swelling also forms in the throat, resembling a Yang syndrome, but the pain is not severe. The patient feels a very dry sensation at the junction of the throat and esophagus; drinking water provides slight relief, but once the water enters the abdomen, the abdomen becomes restless, and the patient produces copious amounts of watery saliva.

3 liang of Prepared Rehmannia, 1 liang of Morinda Root, 5 qian of Poria, 1 liang of Ophiopogon, 2 qian of Northern Schisandra.
