Formulas Name : Great Calming Pill

Chinese Name : 大镇心丹

Drug Formulation

Cinnabar (decocted in wine made from yellow pine knots) and dragon’s teeth (decocted in vinegar with Polygala root shoots)—each in equal parts.

*San Yin*, Volume 9.

Processing

Grind only the cinnabar and dragon’s teeth into a fine powder; mix with pig’s heart blood to form pills the size of a chicken’s egg.

Benefits

For epilepsy, convulsions, delirium, confusion, unconsciousness, and spitting of saliva and froth; as well as for heart palpitations, fear, inability to sleep despite being awake, or pain in the left flank.

Instructions for Use

Take 1 pill per dose, boiled with Ophiopogon leaves, mung beans, rush, ginger, white honey, and water until the beans are tender; swallow before bedtime; for children, grind half a pill into a paste.
