Drug Formulation

1 jin of Coptis, 1 liang of Red Poria, 1 liang of Polyporus, 1 liang of White Cowpea, 1 liang of Alisma, 1 liang of Acorus, 1 liang of Curcuma, 1 liang of Magnolia Bark, 1 liang of Trifoliate Orange Peel, 5 qian of Dried Tangerine Peel, 5 qian of Cardamom, 1 liang 5 qian of Angelica, 7 qian 5 fen of White Peony, 7 qian 5 fen of Sichuan Lovage, 1 liang 2 qian of Atractylodes.

Processing

Except for Coptis, decoct the above ingredients in water to a concentrated decoction; strain out the residue and boil further. Add the Coptis and soak it in the decoction, then sun-dry and grind into a powder for later use. Separately, take 10 liang of Evodia (soaked in water to remove toxicity) and stir-fry it with the Coptis until dry and golden in color; discard the Evodia. Then add 5 qian of Wood Fragrance and 2 liang of Amomum (wrapped in flour and steamed until cooked), grind all together into a powder, and form into pills the size of mung beans using millet paste.

Instructions for Use

Take 2 qian 5 fen per dose; adjust the dosage according to the severity of the condition. For bloody dysentery, take with Sophora japonica Decoction; for non-bloody dysentery, take with Dried Tangerine Peel Decoction.
