Drug Formulation

1 fen of Wood Fragrance, 1 fen of Cinnamon Bark (peeled), 1 fen of Dried Ginger, 1 fen of Tangerine Peel (pith removed),White Wu-yi 1 fen, Angelica sinensis 1 fen, Atractylodes macrocephala 1 fen, Evodia rutaecarpa 1 fen, Rheum palmatum 1.5 fen, Areca nuts 2 (1 raw, 1 roasted), Aconite root (1 large or 2 small), Coptis chinensis 0.5 liang (with hairy tips removed), Soapberry pods 2 (free of worms; soak to remove black residue.one piece to be roasted in the sun, one piece to be roasted with butter; if neither is available, substitute with honey), Croton seed half liang (soak in freshly drawn water for 3 days, changing the water daily; remove the inner membrane and grind separately until fine as flour), and 1 nutmeg.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a powder; then add the croton seeds and grind them together. Pour the mixture into a crucible, cover it with a bowl, and place the crucible over a charcoal fire for 1–2 shichen. Remove the bowl, wipe off the condensation, and continue until the mixture is completely dry. Stir the mixture with a spoon to ensure even distribution. Wait seven days after preparation before taking it, following the instructions in the formula.For diarrhea, take with cold tea; for hot tea, take with hot tea; for cholera, take with a decoction of dried Acorus; for yin-toxin typhoid fever requiring diaphoresis, take with Ephedra Decoction; for blood and qi disorders, take with a decoction of Angelica sinensis in wine; for all types of wind disorders, take with a decoction of Han Fangji; for transverse fetal presentation, take with a decoction of Motherwort; for retained placenta, take with warm wine; for lower back and leg pain, take with a decoction of ginger and scallion in wine; for bloody dysentery after childbirth, take with a decoction of Angelica sinensis in wine;For childhood epilepsy, take it with a decoction of scallions and ginger; for coughs, take it with a decoction of mulberry bark; a decoction of apricot kernels is also effective; for food stagnation, take it with a decoction of Shenqu; for vomiting, take it with ginger decoction; for diarrhea and dysentery, take it with a decoction of Coptis; for accumulated qi, take it with tea; for chest pain, take it with a decoction of Wu-ti mixed with wine.For contusions and injuries, take with warm wine; for children with roundworm bites, take with cold water; for pregnancy-related qi rising to the heart (to stabilize the fetus), take with wine; for children with prolapsed intestines, use ash from a steamer strap mixed with water; for obstruction of urination or defecation, take with tea, followed by congee; for red and white vaginal discharge, take with White and Red Hibiscus Decoction; for lower back pain so severe one cannot stand, take with wine; for stagnant blood that does not dissipate, take with rice drink;For blood splinters, take with boiled tea or Magnolia Bark Decoction; for bloody dysentery, take with Sanguisorba Decoction; for bloody sweating, take with ash from a burnt bamboo basket—this applies only to those who have been bedridden for a long time; for illnesses caused by alcohol, take with wine; for illnesses caused by meat, take with meat broth; for illnesses caused by heat, take with plain hot water;For a virgin with blocked blood vessels, a pounding heart, and a bluish tint to the ears and nose—indicating a sudden evil influence—administer with wine; three doses should suffice for recovery; for beriberi, take with cold tea; for the Five Labors and Seven Injuries, take with pig bile juice; Bupleurum Decoction is also acceptable; for abdominal masses and stagnant qi, use only the method described above; for mouth sores, take with dried jujube decoction; for children’s Five Wasting Diseases, take with breast milk; for cough due to lung qi deficiency, take with apricot kernel decoction;For disharmony of stomach qi, take with dried tangerine peel decoction; for all types of sores and swellings, take with white marshmallow root decoction; for blurred or darkened vision, take with tea decoction; for headaches and hair loss, take with rhubarb decoction; for pathogenic factors invading the heart, take with head ash decoction; for postpartum blood surging to the heart, take with wine; for bodily pain during pregnancy, take with mugwort decoction; for fetal immobility, take with Ligusticum and Angelica decoction; for heart pain during pregnancy, take with wild fennel and wine.
