Commentary
Bee pollen (Hua-fen) holds the chief position in this formula. Sweet-neutral in property, it channels into the Spleen, Lung meridians, and works to tonify qi and nourish. Andrographis paniculata (Chuan-xin-lian) fills the deputy position; cold and bitter in character, it travels through the Lung, Stomach, Liver, Gallbladder meridians to clear heat, remove toxins, cool blood and reduce swelling. Polygonum cuspidatum lends further support to the chief action. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients. The overall effect is to clear heat and calm the mind, restoring balance within the insomnia framework.
