Commentary
Goji berries (Gou-qi-zi) function as the chief herb; neutral and sweet in character, it channels into the Liver, Kidney meridians, working chiefly to nourish the liver and kidney, brighten the eyes. Chrysanthemum flowers (Ju-hua) join as the supporting deputy; slightly cold and sweet, bitter in character, it travels through the Lung, Liver meridians to disperse wind-heat, pacify the liver and brighten the eyes. Without a separate harmonizing herb, the herbal tea formula balance is achieved through the mutual tempering of its active ingredients. Working as one, the formula nourish the liver and kidneys, calm the liver, improves eyesight, thereby targeting the yin deficiency and yin pattern that underlies the complaint.
