8 Tonic Chicken Stews for Kidney Yang and Men’s Health

1.Curculiginis Rhizoma and Cherokee Rose Fruit Stewed Chicken

[Functions] Tonifies the Kidney and strengthens yang, astringes essence and stops seminal emission.

[Indications] Impotence, spermatorrhea, frequent urination, and excessive urination caused by Kidney yang deficiency.

[Formula] Curculiginis Rhizoma (Xianmao) 10-12 g, Cherokee Rose Fruit (Jinyingzi) 15 g, chicken meat 200-300 g.

[Preparation Method] Use processed Curculiginis Rhizoma. Cut the chicken into pieces and stew it in a casserole according to the usual method for cooking meat. Then add Curculiginis Rhizoma and Cherokee Roses Fruit and stew together. After the chicken is thoroughly cooked and tender, take the soup to drink and eat the meat. Do not add too much salt when stewing the meat. Do not use an iron pot for stewing.

[Usage] Take at will or consume as a dietary supplement.

2.Young Chicken Stewed with Deer Antler and Other Herbs

[Functions] Warm the middle-jiao and strengthen yang, replenish qi and nourish essence.

[Indications] Applicable to signs of imbalance such as impotence, premature ejaculation, consumptive wellness with emaciation, frequent urination, uterine bleeding and leukorrhea.

[Formula] Hippocampus kuda Bleeker (10 g), shelled shrimp (15 g), one young rooster, Shaoxing wine (20 g), monosodium glutamate (3 g), refined salt (1.5 g), 25 g of sliced scallion, 15 g of ginger chunk, water-soaked bean starch (15 g), and 500 g of clear soup.

[Preparation Method] Slaughter the young rooster, remove the feathers thoroughly, clean it, chop off the claws and wings, open the abdomen to remove the internal organs, wash it again, blanch it in boiling water, then chop it into rectangular small pieces. Divide the pieces into seven portions, with about 125 grams per bowl. Wash the seahorses and shrimp meat with warm water, soak them for 10 minutes, and place them separately on top of the chicken pieces. Add half of the scallion sections, ginger chunks, and other ingredients (excluding the monosodium glutamate for now), along with an appropriate amount of clear broth. Steam in a steamer until thoroughly cooked and tender. After removing the chicken from the steamer, discard the scallion sections and ginger chunks. Invert the chicken into a bowl, pour the original broth into a ladle, add the remaining seasonings, bring to a boil over high heat, skim off any foam, thicken with bean starch paste to collect the juice, and pour it over the chicken.

3.Stewed Chicken with Cordyceps

[Indications] Impotence, spermatorrhea, and Kidney deficiency signs of imbalance such as soreness and weakness of the waist and legs.

[Formula] 5 pieces of Cordyceps sinensis (Berk.) Sacc., 1 hen, appropriate amounts of salt and monosodium glutamate.

[Preparation Method] Open the chicken’s belly, remove the internal organs, wash it clean, then place it in a pot along with Cordyceps sinensis (Chinese caterpillar fungus), add water, and stew for 1.5 hours. Add salt and monosodium glutamate when the chicken meat is thoroughly cooked and tender.

[Usage] Consume the meat and drink the soup. Take it twice a day for 3 to 5 consecutive days.

4.Xuehua Ji Soup

[Functions] Dispels cold, strengthens yang, tonifies the middle-jiao and replenishes qi, reduces edema, and resolves damp-bi syndrome.

[Indications] Suitable for soreness and weakness of the waist and knees, general weakness and fatigue, rheumatoid arthritis, impotence, irregular menstruation in women, and prolonged infertility.

[Formula] Codonopsis Pilosula (Dangshen) 150g, Saussurea Involucrata (Xuelianhua) 30g, Anthriscus Sylvestris (Eshen) 15g, Coix Lachryma-jobi (Yiyiren) 1000g, Chicken Meat 10000g, Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) 50g, Scallion (Congbai) 50g.

[Preparation Method] Weigh out the specified amounts of Codonopsis Radix (Dangshen), Saussurea Involucrata (Xuelianhua), Anthriscus Sylvestris (Eshen), and Coicis Semen (Yiyiren) respectively. After cleaning the first three ingredients, cut Codonopsis Radix and Saussurea Involucrata into 4-cm sections, slice Anthriscus Sylvestris, and wrap them in gauze for later use. Clean Coicis Semen with water and wrap it separately in gauze. Wash and crush Fresh Ginger (Shengjiang) and Scallion (Congbai). Slaughter the chicken, remove all feathers, open the abdomen to remove internal organs, and wash thoroughly. Place the chicken in a pot, add approximately 20,000 grams of water, then add the wrapped herbal sachets, Fresh Ginger, and Scallion. First, bring the broth to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for 2 to 3 hours. Remove the chicken, chop it into 2 to 3-cm cubes, and place them in bowls according to the specified amount. Remove the cooked Coicis Semen, untie the gauze, and scatter it evenly in the bowls. Pour the herbal broth over the contents and lightly season with salt to taste.

5.Stewed Chicken with Seal Penis

[Indications] Various deficiency and exhaustion syndromes in men, such as Kidney essence depletion, exhaustion caused by excessive sexual indulgence, emaciation and debility.

[Formula] 50 grams of sea dog penis (also known as sea dog whip, called wen na qi in traditional Chinese medicine), 25 grams of dioscorea oppositea, 25 grams of wolfberries, 15 grams of eucommia ulmoides, 15 grams of morinda officinalis, 1 chicken, a small amount of salt.

50 grams of white liquor.

[Preparation Method] Slice the seal penis, place it in a small bowl, and soak it in white liquor overnight. Disembowel the chicken, remove the impurities, wash it clean, and place it in an enamel basin. Add the seal penis, Chinese yam, and other traditional Chinese medicines into the basin. Then pour boiling water into the basin until it is eight-tenths full, cover the basin, and stew it over water for 4 hours. It is then ready to be consumed.

[Usage] Take it twice a week for 1 month.

6.Stewed Cistanche deserticola with Wine and Water

[Indications] Impotence, premature ejaculation, deafness, frequent urination, and increased nocturia caused by Kidney yang deficiency.

[Formula] One young rooster (or black rooster), 30 grams of Cistanche deserticola (or 50 grams of fresh Cistanche deserticola).

[Preparation Method] Remove the feathers and internal organs from the chicken, cut it into pieces, and stew it with Cistanche deserticola using water and wine. It can be eaten once the meat is cooked.

[Usage] Consume as desired; a small amount of salt can be added for seasoning.

7.Sulfur Chicken

[Functions] Tonifies yang and replenishes qi.

[Indications] Impotence, premature ejaculation.

[Formula] 1 sulfur-fed chicken.

[Preparation Method] Divide 90 grams of sulfur into 15 packets, with 6 grams in each packet. Administer one packet per day, mixed into the feed to feed one rooster. After all 15 packets have been fed, slaughter the rooster, remove its feathers and internal organs, add water, boil until cooked, and it is ready to be eaten.

[Usage] Consume the chicken and drink the soup. Note that it should not be taken for a long period.

8.Stewed Chicken with Deer Tail

[Indications] Lumbago and back pain, impotence, spermatorrhea, dizziness, tinnitus.

[Formula] Deer Tail 25 g, Astragali Radix (Astragalus) 20 g, Codonopsis Radix (Pilose Asiabell Root) 20 g, Lycii Fructus (Chinese Wolfberry) 20 g, Arillus Longan 10 g, 1 hen.

[Preparation Method] Slit open the hen, remove its intestines and internal organs, and wash it clean. Place the hen along with the five traditional Chinese medicinal herbs into a large stewing jar, pour boiling water until it is about 80% full, cover it, and stew it in a water bath for about 4 hours. Then, season it and it is ready to be eaten.

[Usage] Take it once every 3 to 4 days, and take it multiple times consecutively.
