Drug Formulation

1 young calf (gender unknown; if not examined by a diviner, slaughter it, remove the hair, cut it open, wash it thoroughly, and retain all internal organs without exception; boil it in a large pot), 1 jin of astragalus (chopped, peeled), 4 liang of licorice, 4 liang of cassia bark, 4 liang of dried tangerine peel, 4 liang of galangal (coarsely chopped), 4 liang of Sichuan pepper (seeds removed, cleaned),2 liang of salt, and 2 dou of good wine.

Processing

Place all the herbs together with the wine, Sichuan pepper, and salt into a meat pot. Add water until it reaches 8-fen of the pot’s capacity. Simmer over low heat until the meat is as soft as mud. Remove the bones and pound them to extract the marrow until it is completely dissolved. Strain out the meat, bones, and herbs, retaining only the clear, thick broth. Allow it to cool, then pour it into a jar, cover it, and bury it deeply in the ground, leaving only the top of the jar exposed and shielding it as prescribed.

Instructions for Use

Whenever consuming rice, noodles, or other foods, take the calf meat broth from the jar and mix it with the food as desired, consuming as much as one wishes.
