Drug Formulation

4 liang of Atractylodes macrocephala (roasted), 2 liang of Poria cocos (peeled), 2 liang of Tangerine peel (white pith removed), 4 liang of Chinese yam (stir-fried with ginger juice), 4 liang of lotus seed (peeled and pitted), 4 liang of Coix seed (roasted), 4 liang of Euryale seed (shelled and cleaned), 2 liang of Ginseng (root base removed), and 1 liang of Platycodon root (roasted until dry).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Combine 5.5 sheng of white japonica rice and 2 sheng of glutinous rice (for a total of 7.5 sheng) with the powder and the herbal mixture until well blended. Mix thoroughly with 3 jin of honey (if honey is unavailable, substitute with 4 jin of granulated sugar). Prepare as you would for a traditional cake: place the mixture in a steamer, cut into slices, steam until cooked, then bake until dry. Store in a sealed earthenware jar.
