Chinese Name : 点眼香连膏

Drug Formulation

5 liang of white sand honey (filtered through silk to remove sediment), 5 qian of realgar (clear, ground), 1 qian of frankincense (ground), 1 qian of rock salt (ground), 1 qian of lead丹, and 3 liang of Coptis (remove the stalks and grind into a fine powder).Take the above 6 ingredients (excluding the honey), place them in a silver or stone vessel with 3 large bowls of freshly drawn water, and simmer together until reduced to 1 large bowl. Then add the honey and continue simmering over low heat until it forms a paste, stirring constantly. When the mixture becomes thread-like, strain it through thick cotton to remove the residue and transfer it to a porcelain jar. Add half a qian of mercury, 1 qian of bismuth subnitrate, 1 qian of borneol, and 1 qian of musk (ground).

Processing

In addition to the ointment described above, grind the latter four ingredients into a fine powder and mix them into the ointment. Seal the container with three to five layers of oiled paper and tie it securely. If prepared during the spring, summer, or fall, suspend it from a hemp rope at the bottom of a well for seven days before retrieving it; if prepared during the winter months, seal it in a shaded area for 14 days before retrieving it. This remedy is effective for all conditions except those caused by physical trauma to the eye.
