Drug Formulation

Astragalus (honey-fried) 2 liang, Ginseng (root tip removed) 2 liang, Atractylodes (root tip removed) 2 liang, Poria (peeled) 2 liang, Angelica (washed with wine) 2 liang, Ligusticum 2 liang, White Peony (stir-fried with wine) 2 liang,Cinnamon Bark 2 liang, Large Aconite Root (wrapped in flour, slow-roasted, peel removed) 2 liang, Dried Ginger (stir-fried) 2 liang, Black Pepper 2 liang, Fennel Seed (stir-fried with salt and wine) 2 liang, Polygonum Multiflorum (stir-fried with wine) 2 liang, Mugwort Leaf (stir-fried with vinegar) 2 liang,Wuyao (fried) 2 liang, Evodia (fried in salt water) 3 liang, Cyperus (fried in vinegar) 6 liang, Atractylodes (soaked in rice water, then fried) 4 liang, Licorice (roasted) 1 liang.

Processing

Chop the above ingredients into pieces. Take one white-feathered black-boned chicken weighing 1.5 or 2 jin; hang it to death, soak it in water, and remove the feathers, intestines, feces, head, feet, and wing tips—discard these parts. Place the chicken in an earthenware pot, cover it with the prepared herbs, add good wine, and simmer until thoroughly tender;Remove the bones, then dry the remaining mixture with the herbs in the pot until crisp; grind into a fine powder. Mix the powder with the chicken broth to form a thin rice paste, and roll into pills the size of a Paulownia seed.
