Drug Formulation
Frankincense, myrrh, Fangfeng, Qianghuo, Bai Zhi, Red Peony Root, Danggui, Xuanlian, Cinnamon Bark, Soapberry, Gallnut, Croton Seed (shell removed), Mu Jie Zi, Guo Dan, Castor Bean, Unnamed Herb, Areca Nut, Starch, Mercury Oxide,Liquidambar, Piper longum (one formula uses Lindera), colophony, and beeswax in equal parts; peach, willow, and locust branches; wax paste; and refined oil.

Processing
Except for milk, myrrh, musk, mercury, powder, and cinnabar—which are ground separately—first decoct all the herbs in clear oil until they turn charred; then add liquid ambrozia, colophony, and yellow wax,and wax paste; continue boiling until dissolved. Strain through silk to remove the previous ingredients, then add Chinese cinnabar and water-soluble powder and boil again until the mixture turns purple. Next, add the ground milk, myrrh, musk, and light powder, and stir continuously with peach, willow, and locust branches until the mixture does not disperse even when a drop of water is added. Store in a clay vessel; remove from heat to eliminate the toxic properties before use.
