Processing
Grind the ingredients into a fine powder; mix with a thin wheat flour paste to form pills the size of a paulownia seed.
Benefits
For edema characterized by hardness and distension in the chest and abdomen, swelling and pain throughout the body, coughing, and shortness of breath.
Instructions for Use
Take 30 pills each time on an empty stomach at the fifth watch. The decoctions to be used are as follows: for general edema, take with a decoction of Sargassum, Polygonum multiflorum, and Atractylodes macrocephala; for facial swelling, take with a decoction of dried tangerine peel; for abdominal swelling, take with a decoction of Cimicifuga; for swelling of the lower back, take with a decoction of Lepidium sativum seeds;for swelling of the limbs, take with a decoction of mulberry bark; for swelling of the feet, take one pinch of raw rice—wash the rice with water, then rub and crush it, soak in boiling water, and drink the infusion to take the medicine; if there is profuse and uncontrollable diarrhea, soak the hands and feet in cold water to stop it. If the feet and knees are swollen, after taking the medicine, elevate both feet while lying down so that the fluid flows between the feet and is expelled through urination and defecation; the swelling will then subside on its own. This medicine should not be taken in large doses, nor should it be taken for consecutive days. If the fluid is not completely expelled after a single dose, the medicine should be taken once every three days. On the other two days, take Shengliao Wuling San or Jiahe San, decocted with ginger and jujubes, as these formulas regulate the spleen to improve appetite and clear and promote urination, causing the swelling to subside on its own.
Note
On the days you take this medicine, do not take any other medications; licorice is strictly prohibited, and you must abstain from salt for half a year. Women should not take this formula before or after childbirth.
