Chinese Name : 避瘟丹

Drug Formulation

2 liang of Perilla, 4 liang of Cyperus (processed in four ways: with children’s urine, vinegar, salt water, and wine), 2 liang of Atractylodes (stir-fried with earth), 1 liang of Ophiopogon (core removed), 1 liang of Wood Fragrance (avoid exposure to fire), 2 liang of White Cowpea (stir-fried until yellow), 5 qian of Realgar (ground into powder), 2 liang of Peppermint, 8 liang of Guanzhong (washed and decocted into a paste), 2 liang of Forsythia,3 liang of hawthorn pulp (stir-fried until black), 1 liang of Guang huoxiang leaves (sun-dried and ground), and 3 liang of agarwood powder.

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Mix in the juice of 1 jin of fresh ginger, then combine with refined honey to form pills. Coat each pill with finely sifted cinnabar; each pill weighs 2 qian.

Instructions for Use

For seasonal cold and typhoid fever, take with hawthorn and mint decoction; for malaria, take with Bupleurum and dried tangerine peel decoction; for dysentery with red stools, take with Angelica decoction; for white stools, take with light ginger decoction. Children and pregnant women should take half a pill.

Note

Avoid raw, cold, fishy, greasy, and fried foods.
