Formulas Name : Rhinoceros Horn and Five-Flavor Powder

Chinese Name : 犀角五味散

Drug Formulation

Raw rhinoceros horn (powdered) 5 liang, donkey-hide gelatin (roasted) 4 liang, Phellodendron bark 4 liang, mugwort leaves 3 liang, dried ginger 3 liang (one version reads “dried indigo”).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a powder.

Benefits

Indications: bloody dysentery, with cramping pain in the lower abdomen; irregular bowel movements; uncontrollable watery diarrhea mixed with blood.

Instructions for Use

Initially, take 1 fangcun bi, washed down with liquid, twice daily. Gradually increase the dose to 2–3 bi as appropriate.
