Note

Shenghua Decoction promotes blood circulation and dispels blood stasis; it is still appropriate for pain in the lower abdomen. However, for those with a constitution of liver deficiency and blood dryness who frequently exhibit signs of liver yang rising, Shenghua Decoction—being pungent, warm, and rapidly moving—is not suitable. There have been cases where taking this formula led to spasms and syncope; this must be noted.Contraindications for this formula include loose stools caused by spleen-stomach deficiency; palpitations and anxiety caused by chronic heart fire hyperactivity; dizziness and flank pain caused by uncontrolled liver yang; dry mouth and throat caused by yin deficiency with internal heat; intermittent bleeding with clots caused by the Chong and Ren meridians’ inability to retain blood; and any cases where a postpartum woman has contracted external pathogenic factors such as heat or summer-heat, or where external and internal pathogenic heat has not yet been resolved.
