Drug Formulation
2.5 qian of powder (ground separately), 1 qian of lead white powder (ground separately),2 qian of mercury oxide (reserve slightly less than half for coating), 1 qian of raw borneol, 10 pieces of gold leaf, 2.5 qian of mercury, and 0.5 qian of arsenic trioxide (ground separately; for every 1 liang of calcined arsenic, use 2.5 qian of sodium carbonate; grind thoroughly while hot and place in a box; seal and let dry; cover with ash and heat over a moderate fire for 3 jin; remove the ash and peel off 2 fen of the crust; remove from heat and let cool before taking out).

Processing
Except for the mercury, grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use jujube pulp to form pills the size of a chicken’s head. Use chopsticks to pierce a hole in each pill, insert the mercury, then seal the pill. Roll the pills in the remaining powder to coat them.

Instructions for Use
If the jujube pulp is not sufficiently moist or the mercury is not ground finely, it may be difficult to form into pills. For chest constriction due to typhoid fever—characterized by cold extremities, hardness and tightness in the chest and abdomen, and heat, dryness, oppression, and confusion—or for seasonal epidemics of typhoid fever where, after sweating, the patient becomes delirious, speaks incoherently, and fails to recognize friends or relatives, take 2 pills per dose with licorice decoction;Postpartum blood and qi surging upward, accompanied by unrelenting shortness of breath and distension and fullness in the chest and abdomen; or in cases of epidemic or seasonal cold where residual heat persists after sweating, leading to mania and uncontrollable wandering—take 2 pills each time, washed down with licorice decoction; for cold with tidal fevers that occur at night and subside during the day, resembling malaria—take 2 pills each time, washed down with warm rice water;For wind-induced pain and pathogenic factors, as well as “heart wind,” and for women suffering from pathogenic cold affecting blood and qi, take 2 pills per dose, washed down with licorice decoction; To promote circulation before childbirth without harming the fetus and to eliminate mercury, take 2 pills per dose, washed down with warm rice water; if no effect is observed, take another dose; For chronic visceral toxicity with bloody diarrhea, as well as red and white dysentery, with 50–70 bowel movements per day and night, take 1 pill per dose, washed down with warm rice water, twice daily.
