Drug Formulation
5 qian of mercury, 5 qian of rock salt, 1 liang of soapstone alum, 2 qian 5 fen of raw lead (ground into a fine powder together with the mercury), 1 liang 5 qian of raw alum, 1 liang 2 qian 5 fen of calcined alum, 1 qian 5 fen of white arsenic, 1 qian 5 fen of borax, and 1 qian 5 fen of refined realgar.

Processing
Grind the ingredients into an extremely fine powder and place them in a small earthenware jar. Melt the mixture over a charcoal fire until the medicine dries and solidifies at the bottom of the jar. Take an earthenware basin, invert the jar containing the medicine into the center of the basin, and seal the jar’s opening tightly with salt mud.In a separate large basin filled with water, place the jar containing the mixture. Surround the rim of the jar halfway up with bricks, lining the base with cold ash. Then, place charcoal fire beneath both the bricks and the bottom of the jar. Light the fire from the top first, working downward—starting gently and then more vigorously—for the duration of three sticks of incense. Once cooled and set, open the jar, scrape the elixir from the basin, grind it into a fine powder, and store it tightly in a porcelain bottle.

Instructions for Use
Use a needle to pierce the superficial skin, then apply 1 li of the elixir mixed with vinegar to the affected area; this will immediately cause the abscess to rupture and discharge pus. Alternatively, for highly toxic back abscesses, apply 1 li each time, pierce the skin with a needle, and apply the mixture to the affected area three times a day.The medicinal properties penetrate inward, reaching a depth of over one cun; once the toxic qi has an outlet to escape, the toxin dissipates easily. For lesions with a large base, use 5 li of cinnabar and 1 qian of powdered Sichuan fritillary bulb, mixed with strong tea brine and applied to the surrounding area; yellow blisters will inevitably form, and yellow fluid will flow out, causing the toxin to dissipate on its own.
