Chinese Name : 拖油膏

Drug Formulation

4 liang of zinc oxide (processed three times with children’s urine, then treated three times with Sanhuang Decoction, ground to a very fine powder), 2 liang of micaceous white (sifted), 2 liang of Sichuan pepper (pits removed), 1 jin of yellow beeswax, and 1 jin of white beeswax.

Processing

Take 1 jin of sesame oil, add Sichuan pepper, and simmer until the pepper is completely charred. Strain out the residue, then simmer again until a drop of oil forms a bead when dropped into water. Add the two types of wax and melt until uniform. Next, add the zinc oxide and miso powders, stirring until thoroughly blended. Melt the mixture over a water bath. Cut mulberry bark paper into strips 8 cun long and 3 cun wide; dip them into the oil, and they will dry immediately.

Instructions for Use

For all patients, first prepare a decoction using one handful of pine needles, 1 liang of purple-flowered groundsel, 1 liang of honeysuckle, and 5 qian of raw licorice root, simmered into an extremely concentrated broth. Allow it to cool, then wash the affected area with it. After the area is dry, apply the ointment.
