Processing

Soak for 9 nights in winter, 7 nights in spring and autumn, and 5 nights in summer. Add the mixture to the pot in several batches and simmer over alternating low and high heat until the herbs are withered and the oil turns black, and a drop of water forms a bead. Filter out the residue, reweigh the mixture—each batch of medicinal oil should weigh 12 liang—then add 4 jin of finely filtered pine resin flakes and simmer together until a drop of water does not disperse. Add 6 liang of finely ground Hundred Herbs Ash to each pot, stirring continuously without stopping, until the desired consistency is reached. Then pour the mixture into a water vat, stir with a stick until it forms a mass, have two people pull and stretch it several times, and store it in a porcelain bowl.
