Drug Formulation
5 qian of Angelica sinensis, 5 qian of Polygala tenuifolia, 5 qian of Panax ginseng, 3 qian of Angelica dahurica, 3 qian of Safflower, 3 qian of Schisandra chinensis, 3 qian of Aconite, 5 qian of Cinnamon bark, 3 qian of Atractylodes lancea, 1 pair of deer antlers, 3 qian of Licorice, 5 qian of Astragalus membranaceus, 3 qian of Bletilla striata, and 5 qian of Lonicera japonica flowers.

Processing
Take 2 jin of sesame oil and soak the ingredients in it for five days in spring, three days in summer, seven days in fall, and ten days in winter. Simmer over low heat until the mixture turns black, then strain out the residue. Add 1 jin of orpiment and stir until a drop of the mixture forms a bead and does not stick to the hands; remove from heat at this point. When the heat has nearly dissipated, add 3 qian of musk, 3 qian of Yangqishi, 3 qian of frankincense, 3 qian of cloves,3 qian of opium—all ground into an extremely fine powder—and add them gradually while stirring continuously without stopping. Transfer the mixture to a porcelain container, cover it tightly, and bury it in a pit dug in the ground for one month. Remove it and use it as an ointment.

Instructions for Use
To use, place the ointment in a copper spoon or porcelain cup and instantly dissolve it with boiling water to eliminate any “fire” properties; then apply it to the navel.
