Drug Formulation

5 qian of Notopterygium, 5 qian of Angelica pubescens, 5 qian of Scrophularia, 5 qian of Cinnamomum cassia, 5 qian of Angelica sinensis, 5 qian of Citrus aurantium peel, 5 qian of Paeonia rubra, 5 qian of Aconitum carmichaeli, 5 qian of Pinellia, 5 qian of Rehmannia glutinosa, 5 qian of Trichosanthes kirilowii, 5 qian of Pangolin scale (calcined),Cardamom 5 qian, Rhubarb 5 qian, White Angelica 5 qian, Safflower 5 qian, Sichuan Pepper 5 qian, Acute-seed 5 qian, Water Safflower Seeds 5 qian, Strychnos Nux-vomica 20 jin (ground), Croton Tiglium 60 seeds (ground), Castor Beans 60 seeds (ground), Single-clove Garlic 1 liang (ground).

Processing

Coarsely chop the ingredients. Use one jin and four liang of sesame oil to simmer Angelica dahurica until it turns a scorched color; strain out the residue. Add one small cup each of the natural juices of scallions and ginger; bring to a boil to evaporate the water, then add a clump of tangled hair and simmer until dissolved;Gradually add 1 jin 2 liang of orpiment and 6 liang of colophony; simmer until the mixture reaches a medium consistency, then remove from heat. Add 5 qian each of sodium carbonate, asafoetida, frankincense, and myrrh, along with 3 qian each of musk and human hair, to form a paste.
