Drug Formulation

Astragalus 12 liang (honey-fried, decocted into a paste), raw Rehmannia root 6 liang (sliced with a copper knife), honeysuckle 4 liang, Angelica sinensis 4 liang, licorice (peeled, honey-fried) 1.5 liang, Lycium bark (washed with licorice water) 2 liang, Guang Chenpi (white pith removed) 1 liang.

Instructions for Use

Take 2 dou of white glutinous rice to make 1 cheng of fermented rice wine. Wrap the last six herbs listed above in cotton cloth, place them inside the cheng, and steam over a water bath for 3 incense sticks’ worth of time. Pour in the Astragalus paste and simmer for another 3 incense sticks’ worth of time. Bury the cheng underground at a depth of over 3 chi. After 7 days and 7 nights, dig it up, strain the liquid, and it is ready for use.
