Drug Formulation

5 dog gallbladders (juice removed), half a liang of realgar (soaked in bile for 21 days), half a liang of dried lacquer (crushed and stir-fried until smoke rises),half liang of Datura flower (tossed with vinegar and stir-fried until dry), half liang of Prunus mume seeds, half liang of Corydalis, 1 fen of dried ginger (roasted until cracked, then coarsely chopped), 1 fen of Mylabris (stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, then remove wings and legs), half liang of Angelica sinensis (coarsely chopped, lightly stir-fried), 1 fen of amber,1 fen of arsenic trioxide, half a liang of dragon’s liver (finely ground), 1 liang of natural copper (chopped and finely ground), half a liang of horseflies (stir-fried until slightly yellow, with wings and legs removed), and half a liang of leeches (stir-fried until slightly yellow).

Processing

Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Use 1 sheng of first-press vinegar; first add the natural copper powder, boil for 10 boils, then remove the sediment. Transfer the liquid to a cauldron, add half of the herbal powder, and simmer over low heat until it becomes a paste. Then add realgar, dog bile, and the remaining half of the herbal powder; mix and pound with a pestle 300–400 times, then form into pills the size of mung beans.
