Drug Formulation

6 liang of Pi Xiao (previously purified), 6 liang of Sichuan pepper (seeds removed), 6 liang of castor beans (shells removed), 3 jin of Huangxiang (rosin from which the pine resin has been removed), and half a jin of mung beans.

Processing

First, take half a sheng of mung beans and 6 liang of Sichuan pepper, add 2 dang of water, and boil down to a thick decoction. Strain out the pepper and beans, retaining only the clear liquid. Boil for another incense stick’s worth of time, then add the yellow rosin to the liquid. Boil for another two incense sticks’ worth of time, remove from heat, add the refined skin-removed saltpeter, stir well, and transfer to a mortar. Add the castor seeds and pound gradually into a paste, forming a single block.

Instructions for Use

When ready to use, determine the size of the mass, soften it with a hot water bath, and shape it into a cake. First, rub a small amount of musk onto the skin to facilitate the penetration of the medicinal properties, then apply the medicated plaster. Secure it with a dog-skin plaster, and immediately use a hot iron to press down on the plaster 3–5 times. Finally, wrap it tightly with silk cloth. Change the dressing every 3 days to eliminate the root cause of the disease.

Note

Avoid eating bitter greens, tofu, Chinese toon, winter melon, eggplant, chicken, fish, vinegar, and pork head meat.
