Drug Formulation

Coptis (stems removed) 1 liang, lead丹 (water-washed) 1 liang, Phellodendron bark (coarse outer bark removed) half a liang, peach kernels (shells, tips, and double kernels removed) 7 pieces, apricot kernels (shells, tips, and double kernels removed) 7 pieces, borneol (ground) half a qian, white sand honey 4 liang.

Processing

Except for borneol, lead丹, and honey, grind all ingredients into a fine powder. Mix with 2 bowls of well water, honey, and lead丹 until well blended. Soak for 3 days, then transfer to a silver or stone vessel. Simmer over alternating high and low heat until the volume is reduced by half. Filter through cotton to remove impurities, then add the ground borneol to form a paste. Seal in a porcelain jar, bury it in the ground overnight to remove the heat toxicity.
