Fermented Black Bean Decoction,*Formulas for Universal Relief*, Volume 306.,During the spring and summer months, there is a type of multicolored caterpillar found among trees and on walls that is extremely poisonous. If a person comes into contact with it, the caterpillar releases tiny hairs onto the hands and feet; these penetrate from the skin to the flesh and from the flesh into the bone. At first, the skin and flesh feel slightly itchy, but pain gradually sets in. After ten or so days, the itching remains on the surface while the pain is internal. Scratching the affected area causes alternating pain and itching, inevitably leading to the decay of both bone and flesh, posing a threat to one’s life. This condition is known as “being struck by an arrow,” and no other medicine can cure it.

Instructions for Use
Apply a thick layer to the painful and itchy areas. After about an hour, the fengchi’s potency will penetrate the bones, drawing out the caterpillar hairs, which will become clearly visible. Remove the fengchi and bury it in the ground; then wash the affected area with a decoction of fragrant white angelica. If the flesh has already rotted, apply a paste made from ground cuttlefish to heal it.
