Drug Formulation

2 qian of realgar, 1 qian of dragon’s blood, 4 fen of musk, 1 qian of borneol, 2 fen of white lead, 1 qian of dried ginger, 1 qian of Sichuan aconite, 1 qian of wild aconite (grind all into a fine powder, store in a porcelain jar for future use); 3 jin of fresh Five-Tail Grass (harvested between February and March, semi-dried in the shade).

Processing

Use 2 jin of sesame oil; simmer the herb in the oil until charred, then remove and discard the residue; add the herb again and simmer, then remove and discard the charred residue once more, and filter thoroughly. Return the oil to a pot and simmer until a drop of oil forms a bead when dropped into water; add roasted cinnabar in appropriate amounts to form a paste.
