Drug Formulation

3 qian of gardenia (peeled), 6 qian of licorice (raw), 2 liang of raw dried rehmannia, 1 liang of cooked dried rehmannia, 8 qian of Coptis (stems removed),8 qian of blue thistle seeds, 4 qian of angelica root, 1 he of cassia seeds (all coarsely ground), 6 qian of horse-tooth soda, 4 qian of rock salt, half a liang of miso, 1 liang 1 qian of magnolia bark, 1 piece of oyster shell (soaked in rice washing water for 3 days, then scraped and washed), 1 qian of frankincense, 1 zhi of realgar, 2 qian of borax,2 qian of Cinnamomum cassia seeds (the above ingredients ground into a fine powder), half a bundle of lamp wick (chopped), 1 liang 3 fen of lead丹 (sifted),30 jujubes (pitted and sliced), 3 jin of white honey (mix all the above ingredients thoroughly, place in a porcelain jar, seal with bamboo leaves and oiled paper to prevent air from entering, place the jar in a pot, and simmer in a double boiler for 1 day; remove and strain through silk cloth to remove the dregs), 2 qian of cinnabar (ground), 1 qian of borneol (ground), 1 zi of musk (whole, ground),1 zhi talcum powder (ground).

Processing

Excluding the ointment prepared earlier, grind the latter four ingredients together until uniform, add them to the ointment, stir until well blended, and store in a dry porcelain container.

Instructions for Use

Apply to the eyes with a copper chopstick following the standard method; take the remaining residue, mix it with 2 bowls of snow water, stir well, and place it in a jar. Simmer for 1 day as before, strain to obtain the clear liquid, and apply it to the eyes; after the residue is dried in an oven, add 2 liang each of Manqingzi and E Shi (both roasted), and pound them together into a powder.Take 1 qian bi per dose after meals, mixed with Schizonepeta and wax tea. For patients whose vision is reduced to 1–2 fen, results will be evident within 100 days.
