Processing

Take these nine ingredients: first grind the mercury granules, realgar, cinnabar, and realgar-sulfur-mercury compound, then pack them tightly into a Hunan-style bottle. Next, pack the azurite, lead丹, and white lead tightly into the bottle. Cover with the lid, seal with “Liu Yi” clay, leaving a 1-cun gap unsealed, and place over a fire to dry;First, maintain it over low heat for one day and one night; then, using high heat, heat it from noon until 3:00 p.m., until it turns completely red, smoke and flames emerge from the gap, and the medicinal vapors rise; immediately remove the heat, turn the bottle away, and quickly seal the gap with clay;Cover the bottle with sifted, clean ash and let it sit until the next day. Once cooled, open it and remove the medicine. Pound and sift it, then spread it out on sifted, damp, clean sand. Line the top with three layers of heavy-weight paper, place the medicine on top, and cover it with another three layers of paper. Sprinkle the damp sand evenly over it, cover with a basin, and let it sit for three days and nights, lightly sprinkling water each day. After the period is complete, retrieve the medicine; Then place it in a mortar and grind it evenly with lead oxide. Take well-steamed Qingzhou jujubes, remove the flesh, and grind it into a paste. Mix the two together to form pills the size of a tung tree seed.
