Drug Formulation

Potassium aluminum sulfate (alum) 6 g, carbolic acid (phenol) 1 g, Coptis rhizome 2 g, procaine 1 g, sodium citrate 1.5 g, glycerin 20 mL, distilled water 80 mL.

Processing

(1) Wash Coptis with distilled water, decoct it three times, combine the decoctions, and filter to obtain Solution ①; (2) Add the phenol solution to the glycerin to obtain Solution ②; (3) Heat an appropriate amount of distilled water to dissolve the potassium aluminum sulfate, then add sodium citrate and procaine to obtain Solution ③;(4) Slowly add Solution ③ to Solution ② under continuous heating and stirring to obtain Solution ④; (5) Finally, combine Solutions ① and ④, add distilled water to the total volume, filter, then filter again through a No. 3 glass filter bulb. Bottle and seal the solution, then sterilize with standard steam for 30 minutes. The solution should be a golden-yellow, transparent liquid with a pH of 3.5.
