Drug Formulation

100 seeds of croton, 100 seeds of castor bean, 4 liang of Wulingzhi, 1 liang of asafoetida (boiled in vinegar until dissolved), 1 liang of Angelica sinensis, 5 qian of white Aconite, 5 qian of manchurian armadillo shell, 5 qian of frankincense (roasted, oil removed), 5 qian of myrrh (roasted, oil removed), 3 fen of musk, 1.5 jin of pine resin, and 5 liang of sesame oil.

Processing

Except for frankincense, myrrh, musk, pine resin, and asafoetida, all other ingredients should be in sliced form. Soak them in sesame oil for three days, then simmer in an earthenware pot until the mixture turns black and charred. Strain out the residue and simmer the oil again until a drop of it forms a bead when dropped into water. For every 4 liang of oil, add 1 jin of pine resin.simmer for a short while (about the time it takes to cook one meal), then add frankincense, myrrh, and musk. Remove from heat and place in water, rinsing until it turns golden yellow. During simmering, stir continuously with peach or willow twigs until the mixture is completely dry.
